As small and midsized companies continue to embrace a multicloud world, setting themselves up for growth and success (which Jon Roskill, Acumatica’s CEO, discusses in this post), it’s critical they don’t end up in a siloed software licensing situation that limits them. Currently, most software licensing models are user-based (except Acumatica!). You license a specific user for the right to use a specific product, in a particular company, and sometimes even for a particular device. Even Microsoft is recognizing the shift in licensing, as spearheaded by Acumatica. They changed their policies in SharePoint 2016 to allow unlimited access for extranet devices. If you were running SharePoint in the old world, you’d have had to purchase SharePoint Internet Connector, which cost roughly $15,000 so that you and all your partners could access it.
