Acumatica’s newest educational and Community resource, The Acumatica ERP Podcast, went live on November 20, 2025. It featured Acumatica CEO John Case, who discussed Acumatica’s “secret sauce” for success.
Our conversation with John was the first of many discussions to come with industry leaders, ERP experts, and real customers, such as Andrew Williamson, the Director of Venture Engineering. In Episode 2, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Andrew to talk about Venture Engineering’s customer success story.
Here’s a look at what Andrew shared with us on how Acumatica’s modern technology is helping drive performance at Venture Engineering.
Who Venture Engineering Is and What It Was Like Before Acumatica
Venture Engineering has been around since 2015. A motorsport fabrication and engineering business based in the UK, the company designs and makes specialized parts for Formula 1, GT, and rally teams, takes on production-to-conception projects, restores racing cars, and runs its own race team.
“The business was founded by three gentlemen who all came out of the motorsport world and environment and saw an opportunity to create a company that would provide motorsport sort of services and speed and pace of delivery across multiple disciplines,” says Andrew.
Working with renowned car manufacturers, like Aston Martin, as well as with Singer, restoration specialists of Porsche 911s, and contributing to the Mercedes Hypercar program, Venture Engineering has made a name for itself, and it continues to grow its impressive portfolio. Andrew says no day or project is the same and this variety keeps the team on their toes.
“That’s kind of what keeps the guys motivated as well. They really enjoy applying their skills and their knowledge and their learning from the work that they’ve done in the past to new and different challenges and projects,” Andrew says. “So, one day the guys can be working on a historic race car, the next day they’re working on an autonomous vehicle. It’s really quite an interesting place to be.”
It was an especially interesting place to be prior to Venture Engineering implementing Acumatica. Why? They were relying on QuickBooks and multiple Excel spreadsheets to operate their complex operations.
“As the company grew, QuickBooks and Excel just weren’t big enough for us and didn’t have enough functionality,” says Operations Director and Co-founder Adrian Perkins in Venture Engineering’s customer success story.
When asked about those days, Andrew says: “I almost don’t want to go back there. If I’m honest, it was a huge amount of time and effort to filter through lines and lines of data and information,” adding, “It was a massive amount of effort on my side or other members of the team to filter through that data, understand it correctly, and produce some form of report to the rest of the business to say…this is how this project has worked and this is where we got to.”
Fortunately, getting rid of QuickBooks and their spreadsheets in favor of Acumatica helped simplify his life.
Life at Venture Engineering After Acumatica
Implementing Acumatica was, according to Andrew, not as challenging for them as it could have been.
“We weren’t moving from an existing ERP system into a new system. We were importing…relatively small amounts of mainly financial data, purchase order data, etc.,” he says. “We kind of kicked off when we weren’t as big as we are today, so there wasn’t a huge amount of stock to bring into the program, so from that side, it was a little bit easier.”
Plus, they had the help of Acumatica partner Cedar Bay. Andrews says they worked closely with Cedar Bay to ensure their processes and procedures they had in place—and wanted to put into place—would be supported by Acumatica. “They were absolutely fantastic at working with us to help improve and develop bit of code to make sure the package did everything we needed it to do as a business.”
The streamlined implementation led to a number of huge benefits, including their ability to now track projects and inventory automatically, trace people’s activities to help improve efficiency, and to enable their customers to have full visibility into their system.
“It really worked hand in glove with the way we like to operate, which is a pretty open book,” he says. “For [customers] to see what’s happening in the system, for us to be able to track those parts, for us to be able to report openly what’s going on, allows us to have real traceability of where we are in the project and what changes we need to capture and how we need to report back to them.”
“By being able to give people access to the system and seeing the data live, it’s just been a game changer in terms of the way that we are able to operate.”
From easily working with customers who supply their own kit and equipment (and being able to track all components of the project) to looking forward to taking advantage of Acumatica’s AI capabilities, Venture Engineering is on track to take their business to the next level.
“We’ve ended up with something far better than I think we even imagined we’d be able to operate from,” Andrew says. “We are continuing to evolve it, and [we’re] really excited still to see what else we can get it to deliver for us.”
The Power of Technology to Impact Success
For Andrew and the Venture Engineering team, technology is key to their success. Andrew says Motorsport is “quite often on the cutting edge of technology” when it comes to the vehicle and the systems it uses to maximize performance during their endurance racing. The team uses technology and data to prepare the car and driver in advance for success, whether that’s looking at driver line ups, track conditions, what competitors are doing, how to make pits stops more efficient, and how the race is unfolding.
“A good example of [how technology helps] was last year as we raced at the 24 Hours of Barcelona, and we ended up winning the race after 24 hours by 1.7 seconds.”
Andrew says that the small fractions of a second that made a difference in the race can also make a difference in business. “We want our technicians, our engineers, our designers, our team, working on the critical things for as long as possible to get the best possible results.”
With Acumatica, they have a powerful solution that will help them do just that. As for other businesses who are debating whether they’re outgrowing QuickBooks or not, Andrew has a piece of advice: “Take the jump.”
“In hindsight, we realized that we probably should have done it sooner. We were kind of in the mindset that…maybe we’re not quite big enough yet. Maybe it’s something that’s going to take too much time and energy from the business as the wrong time to implement it. In reality, I wish we’d done it sooner.”
He adds: “If your aim is to grow, if your aim is to develop, if you want to move your business forward, then you need to take that plunge.”
